I recently finished my degree, and nothing has done more for my creativity than reading long abstracts of technical text.
At worst, my mind plays when I'm bored. At best, the material ends up inspired by the text: in this case, a late-night sketch featuring history's famous economists or a conversation between odd businessmen.
Even more importantly, the inverse is also true: the more I write for fun, the better my professional work becomes.
I maintain high productive stamina, the more I work for fun.
